A New York judge on Tuesday set a Jan. 31, 2019, deadline for the parties to give depositions in a defamation suit against President Donald Trump by former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos.
Judge Jennifer Schecter refused to put the case on hold while lawyers for Trump ask New York’s top court and possibly the U.S. Supreme Court to decide whether a sitting president can be sued in state court. BuzzFeed News, Politico, Reuters, Bloomberg News and Raw Story covered the hearing.
BuzzFeed and Politico say Trump will have to be deposed as a result of Schecter’s order, while Bloomberg says Schecter didn’t rule on whether the president must be questioned.
A state appeals court in New York refused to stay the suit last month.
Zervos claims Trump defamed her by denying her allegations of unwanted kissing and groping when she met with him to discuss job opportunities.
