Lawyer accused of stalking his girlfriend and telling her that criminals owe him favors

Criminal Justice

A Milwaukee criminal defense lawyer arrested at the courthouse Friday has been accused of stalking and intimidating his former girlfriend, telling her that he could find criminals to enact violence on her family.

The lawyer, 34-year-old Matthew Russell Meyer, is accused of telling the girlfriend in a text message, “Criminals owe me favors,” report the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, WTMJ and Fox 6 Now.

“People who are exceptionally dangerous, and good at it, I’ve met plenty, keep in touch with plenty,” he allegedly said.

Meyer is also accused of pushing a man who was walking the girlfriend home from a bar in October 2017 and punching the girlfriend in the head in April 2018.

After their breakup in August, Meyer allegedly threatened to air her “dirty laundry” if she didn’t have sex with him one more time, pay him money that he thought was owed, or provide information about the men she was seeing.

Meyer is accused of sending the woman more than 500 emails after their breakup.

Meyer is charged with substantial battery with intent to cause bodily harm, threatening to communicate derogatory information, felony victim intimidation and stalking.

He is accused of telling the victim that he wouldn’t face any consequences for his actions because of his position as a lawyer.
